Mark 10:46–52 | The Blind Man Sees

 • Series: On the Road with Jesus

Part 37 of the Sermon Series: On the Road with Jesus | A Study in the Gospel of Mark Community Group Questions Mark 10: 46-52 Mark does more than give account of Jesus restoring another blind man’s sight, he gives the man a name. Why is Bartimaeus special? Back in Mark 8:22-26, Mark gave the account of another blind man who did not see clearly when Jesus first laid hands on him. These blind man accounts are the “bread” of what theologians call a “Markan Sandwich” - a literary style of Mark’s used to highlight what is in between the accounts, the “meat.” Some of the things in between are Peter’s confession, the Transfiguration, the disciples vying for power - twice, the children, the Rich Young Ruler, and Jesus telling them 3 times that he will suffer and die in Jerusalem. What is the significance of this Markan Sandwich? What does Mark want us to see (pun intended)? Describe the faith of Bartimaeus. Jeremiah defined faith as a confession of 3 things. What 3 things does faith confess that Bartimaeus models for us here? The faith of Bartimaeus was not something he did to convince Jesus to heal him, but was the instrument used by God to bring him to the Savior. What are some ways you have tried to misuse faith or have misunderstood it? Share testimony of how God has used faith in your own life to bring you to the Savior.
