Romans 1:24–25 | God Gave Them Up

 • Series: The Gospel in Romans

Part 13 in the sermon series "The Gospel in Romans | the power of God for salvation" COMMUNITY GROUP QUESTIONS ‌ 1) Compare and contrast Romans 1:18-24 and Romans 1:24-25. How do these two passages parallel each other. Look for the following four elements: 1) What God did, 2) What the people were doing that explain why he did it, 3) A fuller explanation of what was wrong with what the people were doing. All three of these elements are in both of these passages. ‌ 2) What does God give them up to? What does these mean in the context of Romans 1 and the rest of scripture (see 2 Corinthians 12:21, Colossians 3:5-6)? ‌ 3) What did the people exchange? Why is this a problem? ‌ 4) Tim Keller names anxiety as an indicator of idolatry about the future, guilt as an indicator of idolatry in the past, and anger as an indicator of anxiety in the present. Can you identify these three forms of idolatry in your life? ‌ 5) Romans 1:16 says that Paul is not ashamed of the gospel. How can a deep abiding in the righteousness of Christ rescue the believer from all forms of idolatry—whether sexual immorality or anxiety or guilt or anger?
