Work together as a group to recount elements the history of Israel from the birth of Samuel to the anointing of Saul as king, the anointing of David as King and the reign of Solomon and the dedication of the temple in our passage today. ‌ 2. In 2 Chronicles 2:6 Solomon asks the question in his prayer of dedication, “But who is able to build him a house, since heaven, even highest heaven, cannot contain him?” What is the presumed answer to this question? Why does Solomon open his prayer in this way? ‌ 3. How does a transcendent view of God transform our faith? ‌ 4. Consider 2 Chronicles 6:24–25. Where did Solomon get the idea that perhaps, if the people were unfaithful that they would be removed from the land? Recall Deuteronomy 30:1-3. How is Solomon connecting the blessing, curse and promise of redemption framework of God’s covenant to his prayer at the dedication of the temple? ‌ 5. Read John 1:14. The word for “dwelt” is the same as the word for “tabernacle.” How does the temple help us to understand and appreciate the reality of the incarnation? ‌ 6. Read Colossians 3:1-4. Where is Jesus and where is the believer?
