1 Thessalonians 5:12-14 | Will You Let Me Be Your Pastor?

A sermon on 1 Thessalonians 5:12-14 | Will You Let Me Be Your Pastor? CG GUIDE Read 1 Thessalonians 5:12-14 together. The passage calls us to respect spiritual leaders, and gives us 3 aspects of that leadership. Aspect #1. “Those who Labor Among You” Jeremiah described this pastoral leadership labor as “Preaching, Teaching, and coming alongside (Sharing in suffering) with the full counsel of the Word.” For the most part, we like it when we are served in this way… :) Aspect #2. “Those who are over you in the Lord” Question 1: Jeremiah taught that pastors are to be servants but also have authority. How do we balance these concepts? Question 2: In what ways is the reality of being under the care and authority of spiritual leaders a comfort to you, and in what ways is it a challenge to you? Aspect #3. “Those who admonish You” Admonishment = Correction without provocation Question 3: What role does admonishment play in discipleship? How do you typically respond when you are corrected or admonished? Jeremiah started Sunday’s sermon by stating that he hoped we would see from this passage that Jesus loves us. Question 4: How does this passage connect us to the practical, shepherding love of Christ for us?
