Romans 4:9-12 | For Whom is This Blessing?

 • Series: The Gospel in Romans

Part 29 in the sermon series "The Gospel in Romans | the power of God for salvation" CG Guide: Read Romans 4:9-12 In the last few weeks, how has the Lord been shaping you personally through the book of Romans and through the Doctrine of Justification by Faith Alone? Jeremiah said on Sunday that “circumcision and the rituals that surround faith do not add to faith, but serve as a sign and seal”. We heard on Sunday why the church in Rome needed to hear that. In what ways do you think we still look to the “rituals that surround faith” to make us right with God? You’re at Starbucks catching up with an old friend. You know he has gone to church "off and on" his whole life, and he shares how his life is particularly difficult right now. He says that he knows he should go back to church, but even when he does think about God, he doubts if God is pleased with him or if he’s even saved because he keeps failing so much. Think together how you might encourage your friend the good news of the Gospel out of Romans 3 & 4. Paul has been using Abraham as a type since the beginning of this chapter. 1) Abraham believed God. 2) Abraham was counted righteous by God. 3) Abraham walked in the faith which he professed Share together ways in which you could use prayer and support this week as you “walk in the faith which you profess”.
