Romans 5:6-8 | God Shows His Love

 • Sam Powers • Series: The Gospel in Romans

SERMON NOTES: We are often tempted to believe the lie that God doesn’t love us. God shows his love for us in two unique ways in Romans 5:5-8. #1) The Experience of God’s Love (v.5) - God’s love Poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. #2) The Evidence of God’s Love (v.6-8) - While we were: - weak (v6) - ungodly (v8) - enemies of God (v10) Christ’s life, death, and resurrection are real things that happened in real history. Paul tells us we can point to them as evidence that God loves us. Illustration: Pointing to an old photo of an adoption ceremony. - God shows (present tense) his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died (past tense) for us. As believers, we never have to wonder if God loves us. He has made it clear. Praise God! “We are never nearer to Christ than when we find ourselves lost in holy amazement at his unspeakable love.” -John Owen CG GUIDE: Read Romans 5:1-8 Q1: Was anything from Sunday particularly impactful to you? On Sunday, we talked about the fact that we are often tempted to believe lies about God. Our passage speaks specifically to the lie that says, “God doesn’t really love me”. Q2: Are you ever tempted to believe that lie? If not, are there other lies that you find yourself believing about God? According to Romans 5, God shows his love for us in 2 ways: 1. Through the Experience of the Holy Spirit being poured into our hearts.(v5) 2. By the Evidence that Christ died for us while we were sinners.(v6&8) Q3: What difference do these two truths make in our everyday lives?
