Baptism
We believe that baptism and the Lordβs Supper are ordained by the Lord Jesus himself. The former is connected with entrance into the new covenant community, the latter with ongoing covenant renewal. Together they are simultaneously Godβs pledge to us, divinely ordained means of grace, our public vows of submission to the once crucified and now resurrected Christ, and anticipations of his return and of the consummation of all things. At the heart of the meaning of baptism is our union with Christ. Baptism symbolizes our death, burial and resurrection with Jesus Christ. It is an outward sign that displays an inward reality of being born again. And, through union with Christ baptism also celebrates our union with his church. Baptism is about more than the individual. It is about being brought into a new community, a new household of faith.
This Sunday, March 16, Eliana Fyffe will be baptized; demonstrating her new life in Jesus and her union with his church. We look forward to welcoming her as our sister into the household of faith.
Romans 6:3-4
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
